چکیده

This work by Pe'er et al. [5] presents an algorithm for reconstructing a target sequence using the SBH technology integrated with known similar reference sequence. The goal is to get the best reconstruction, given these two sources of information. Some motivation for using the method: tests are performed separately for each mutation with different technologies. Since we know the sequence of the gene (and sometimes even where the mutation might appears) we would like to use this information for finding the correct path of the SBH output. • Identifying unknown microorganism can be done by the sequence of a conserved known gene. • Identifying a specific strain by more divergent sequences. • Finding the gene's sequence in one species, given this gene's sequence in another species. • HLA-typing (graft recognition). • Detecting somatic mutations (cancer). All those challenges present one common problem: we need to reconstruct a target sequence given a known similar reference sequence. Current technologies are either target-specific, or ignore existing information on target (redo sequencing the target).

As we studied in our first lecture, each cell contains a copy of the whole gene. But we have many tissues that are constructed of different cells, that are responsible for various tasks. Thus, each cell utilizes only a subset of its genes. Most genes are highly regulated their expression is limited to specific tissues, developmental stages, physiological condition. What we would like to find ou...

Having reached the end of the Human Genome Project, the question that needs to be asked is: “What‘s next?”. The complete sequencing of the Human Genome is an immense task, which is now nearing completion. While much work remains to be done even there, there are a number of areas this knowledge opens up to research, which have thus far been nearly impossible to pursue. Among those is “functional...

CLICK (CLuster Identification via Connectivity Kernels) is a new algorithm for clustering [14]. The input for CLICK is the gene expression matrix. Each row of this matrix is an " expression fingerprint " for a single gene. The columns are specific conditions under which gene expression is measured. The CLICK algorithm attempts to find a partitioning of the set of elements into clusters, so that...

Triple Test Cross Analysis for Genetic Components of Salinity Tolerance in Spring Wheat

Soil salinity poses considerable and increasing problems for agriculture, and is receiving much attention from plant breeders. The identification of genes whose expression enables plants to adapt to and/or tolerate salt stress is essential for breeding programs, but little is known about the genetic mechanisms of traits in saline conditions. The data obtained from 75 families produced by crossi...

One of the major current applications of microarray technology is using genome-wide expression data in order to classify samples taken from different tissues. “MammaPrint”, a microarray that was recently approved by the FDA for diagnosis of breast cancer, is an example for a novel application of such classification. Classification as a discipline is usually viewed in the context of Machine Lear...
